April Lockhart
April Lockhart was born on July 4th, 1995. When she was in the seventh grade, she started playing guitar and piano lessons which ignited her passion for writing songs. April Lockhart composed her first song"Different" at twelve years old. The year she turned 14 was when she spent a lot of time to making song lyrics and working on the music she was playing. The songwriting began with her dad in NY and LA soon after. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in Take My Hand for the people in her life who are struggling with disabilities, peer pressure or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart is a well-known lifestyle blogger and working in partnerships with brands that are clean and healthy like Ilia she has gained a large following. Her birth was without a left hand. It's an aspect of her identity, but this isn't the whole truth. Lockhart doesn't deny her disability in her posts on Instagram, however she doesn't make it the focus of it. The message? It's important to keep in mind that we all have numerous faces. Our identities are varied and we're greater than the bodies we wear. Lockhart speaks via video in Nashville. "I do not want it to define my personal life. I'm not looking to be merely identified as a specialist in disability. However, it doesn't affect my daily routine. I do the normal things and I've adapted to the limitations of my disability. Since it's a an integral part of me, it's something that's worthy of discussion. Self-acceptance is a long marathon but Lockhart is an absolute inspiration on that front. However, she admits to going through periods of feeling insecure about her body, and also feeling uncomfortable wearing some clothing types that exposed her arms. It's her choice to wear what she wants, and she is proud to share photos of herself wearing these clothes. Self-love, she says, is like a journey. "I do not think that you will ever be there," she said. It's a fact that I see for everyone, whatever their insecurity is. It's essential to have those in your life who know and understand the way you feel. They will be the ones to ask you: What do you worry about?
